Rolls-Royce Unveils More Powerful 12V2000 M96Z Engine for High-Speed Marine Vessels

by Annie

Rolls-Royce has announced the upcoming launch of its 12V2000 M96Z marine engine, a new 12-cylinder variant in the mtu Series 2000 line, slated for release in 2026. Designed specifically for high-performance applications such as fast yachts, patrol vessels, police boats, and sportfishing boats, the new engine delivers a notable boost in power and efficiency.

The M96Z increases output to 2,191 horsepower, surpassing the 1,975 hp rating of its predecessor, the 12V2000 M96X. Despite the higher output, the engine maintains similar weight and dimensions, offering operators improved power density without the need for major design changes to existing engine compartments.

Key upgrades include a reinforced crankcase, strengthened cylinder heads, and new pistons—all contributing to enhanced durability and performance. A redesigned turbocharger system further boosts acceleration while reducing exhaust emissions.

Rolls-Royce confirmed that the M96Z meets IMO II and EPA Tier 3 recreational emissions standards. It is also approved for use with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) renewable diesel, supporting sustainability goals in marine operations.

The new engine will be available to vessel operators beginning in 2026, marking another step in Rolls-Royce’s commitment to advancing high-performance, low-emission marine propulsion solutions.
