Norwall PowerSystems is preparing for the first deliveries of Generac’s new 28kW Home Standby Generator, a major advancement in home energy solutions. In a press release on January 21, 2025, Generac introduced its latest innovation in air-cooled standby generator design, making the 28kW model the most powerful air-cooled unit available on the market.
As homes become increasingly dependent on reliable electricity for safety and comfort, home standby generators offer a critical solution. These systems automatically start and restore power within seconds of an outage, ensuring essential appliances and conveniences remain operational.
Generac’s new 28kW generator represents the next step in a growing trend of more powerful home generators. Previously, models ranged from 20kW to 26kW, but with the 28kW release, homeowners will gain access to a level of power typically reserved for more expensive, liquid-cooled generators found in commercial applications.
Notable design improvements include a more powerful engine with maintenance-free hydraulic lifters, an industry-leading Electronic Fuel and Ignition system that enhances motor starting capacity and reduces fuel consumption, and a newly designed automatic transfer switch that now includes integrated surge protection, in line with updates to the National Electrical Code.
Additionally, connectivity has been enhanced with built-in cellular capabilities as a standard feature, allowing homeowners to control and monitor their generator remotely via smartphone. The new Power Zone 200 Controller, which replaces the previous Evolution controller, adds new features like oil-level sensing and gas pressure monitoring while providing detailed performance and diagnostic data to both homeowners and dealers.
The new 28kW Generac generators are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2025. With a growing preference for Generac among homeowners—seven out of ten choose Generac over other brands—this latest release is set to further strengthen the company’s position as a leader in the home standby generator market.
