Bromsgrove-based Walter GB Ltd is strengthening its capabilities in machining non-ferrous metals with the introduction of a new range of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) milling cutters. While most PCD tools are typically bespoke, Walter is expanding its standard ISO N product line by adding solid MP271 and MP470 milling cutters.
The MP271 is a three-edged drill slot cutter available in diameters ranging from 16 to 25 mm. It features a segmented cutting edge length of 30 mm and a center cutting edge, making it highly effective for deep cuts. This design, coupled with differential pitch geometry that reduces vibration, makes the MP271 particularly suited for trimming operations.
Complementing the MP271 is the MP470, a double-edged spherical cutter offered in diameters of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 16 mm. This two-flute, ball-nosed end mill is engineered for the creation and finishing of free-form surfaces. Depending on diameter, the MP470 offers a cutting length between 4 and 14 mm and an overall length from 55 to 80 mm.
Both cutters are tailored for ISO N materials, including aluminum, aluminum-silicon alloys, magnesium alloys, copper alloys, and fiber composites. Utilizing Walter’s WDN20 PCD grade, these new tools deliver significant improvements in tool life and machining performance.
The brazed PCD cutting edges also support reconditioning, allowing for extended usability and enhanced sustainability. This combination of durability and reusability reduces tool costs and boosts overall cost-effectiveness.
With these advanced features, Walter’s new PCD milling cutters offer a compelling solution for manufacturers working with aluminum in general mechanical engineering, as well as automotive and aerospace industries.
