Renault has announced significant updates to its SUV lineup for the 2026 model year, spotlighting a more powerful full hybrid powertrain for the Captur and Symbioz models, alongside upgraded standard equipment and a new mild hybrid engine option.
At the heart of these enhancements is the new E-Tech 160 full hybrid system, which replaces the previous 145 horsepower unit in both the Captur and Symbioz. This updated powertrain combines a larger 1.8-liter petrol engine with an expanded 1.4 kWh battery, up from 1.26 kWh, boosting both performance and efficiency.
Thanks to these improvements, the vehicles achieve a faster 0-62 mph acceleration—shaving more than one second off previous times—while delivering approximately 5 percent better fuel economy. CO₂ emissions are reduced to 97 grams per kilometer, aligning with the stringent EU7 emissions standards. The enhanced battery capacity also allows for extended electric-only driving, resulting in quieter operation and reduced fuel consumption.
Renault has refined its multi-mode transmission system to provide smoother gear shifts and introduced a new motorway mode aimed at lowering cabin noise and enhancing responsiveness. Additionally, all trims now come equipped with an electronic shifter as standard.
Towing capacity has been increased from 750 to 1,000 kilograms with the new powertrain. Pricing starts at £25,195 for the Captur E-Tech 160 and £29,795 for the Symbioz E-Tech 160.
Adding to the lineup’s appeal, Renault has introduced a mild hybrid 140 engine option for the Symbioz, exclusively available in the Techno trim. This 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mild hybrid achieves 47.9 mpg on the WLTP combined cycle and emits 133 grams of CO₂ per kilometer, with pricing from £27,395.
Safety and driver assistance features have also been enhanced across the Captur range. Electric parking brake and auto-hold are now standard on all trims, while adaptive cruise control with speed limiter is standard on Techno trims and above for hybrid variants, automatically maintaining safe distances and adjusting speed accordingly.
The flagship Esprit Alpine trim boasts additional advanced safety technologies, including lane centering assistance, occupant safe exit warning, blind spot recognition, rear detection with emergency lane keeping assist, and rear cross-traffic alerts. It also introduces a new child locking system for rear doors and windows.
These updates underscore Renault’s commitment to advancing electrification and safety within its SUV range, balancing the transition to zero-emission mobility with practical, everyday performance.
The refreshed Captur and Symbioz models will be available at Renault dealerships, with deliveries expected to commence later this year as part of the 2026 model year launch.
