Gastops Completes Full Season of Field Testing for Fluid Condition Monitoring System

by Annie

Gastops proudly announces the successful conclusion of a full season of field testing for its cutting-edge online fluid condition, contamination, and wear debris monitoring system, developed in collaboration with Nova Scotia-based vessel operator Leeway Marine.

This advanced monitoring technology provides real-time insights into oil condition and contamination levels in engines, gearboxes, and other critical rotating equipment. It enables predictive maintenance and enhances asset reliability across diverse industrial and transportation sectors.

Over the 2024 sailing season, Gastops and Leeway Marine installed prototype systems aboard Leeway’s hydrographic survey vessel, RV Novus, continuously tracking propulsion engine lubricants in demanding marine environments. The extensive testing generated vital data and confirmed the system’s performance in harsh operational conditions.

Following these successful trials, Gastops has upgraded the onboard system to a latest-generation prototype. Leeway Marine will continue testing the enhanced system in the 2025 season, supporting key species management and hydrographic survey missions in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Brennan West, VP of Defence & Aftermarket at Gastops, praised the partnership: “Leeway Marine’s operational expertise and commitment to testing innovative technology have been crucial to advancing our monitoring system. They are an invaluable part of Canada’s innovation ecosystem.”

Mark Decker, CTO of Leeway Marine, highlighted the system’s transformative potential: “Gastops’ reputation for innovation in condition-based maintenance is well earned. These trials have given us firsthand experience with a technology that could revolutionize how vessel operators monitor and manage machinery health in real time.”
