The latest release of Uno Platform, version 6.0, promises transformative improvements in startup speed and UI rendering performance across all supported platforms through its new unified rendering engine, Skia. Announced on May 7 by the Uno Platform Team, this major update equips developers with a lightweight, high-performance, hardware-accelerated rendering solution that spans iOS, Android, Web/WebAssembly, Mac, Linux, and Windows—all from a single .NET codebase.
While native UI rendering remains supported, the integration of Skia delivers what the company describes as “massive” performance gains: up to 75% reduction in application footprint, 60% faster startup times, 30% lower memory usage, and rendering speeds up to 45 times faster. These advances significantly enhance the efficiency and responsiveness of cross-platform apps built with Uno.
In addition to the Skia engine, Uno Platform 6.0 introduces two new UI components. The Media Player Element, originally from Windows UI, is now fully supported across all Uno targets, including those powered by Skia. The WebView2 control is also added, enabling seamless navigation to external web content and the display of custom HTML. WebView2 further supports robust communication between C# and JavaScript, facilitating advanced embedding scenarios such as integration with JavaScript-based charting and data grid components.
With this release, Uno Platform solidifies its position as a leading toolkit for building performant, cross-platform applications with unmatched efficiency and flexibility.
